Year Established
In 1896 the first programs were established in Leadville, Boulder and Pueblo for miner’s families.

Service Area
State of Colorado. There are numerous programs in Metro Denver and the six-county surrounding area. In the Fort Collins area these programs include Meals on Wheels, Congregate Meal Sites and a Handyman Program. On the Western Slope there are programs for the elderly in Montrose and a safehouse and homeless shelter in Durango.

Mission Statement
Volunteers of America seeks to identify and serve the basic needs of the most vulnerable populations in the community.

Identify Colorado’s most vulnerable populations and provide services to help them achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency. Fill the existing service gaps for Colorado’s less fortunate, including the homeless, hungry, low-income individuals and families, homebound seniors, etc.

Forge strategic community partnerships with corporations, fellow non-profits, churches and service groups to provide comprehensive services to Colorado’s most vulnerable populations. Provide meaningful volunteer opportunities to all community members, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, political or religious affiliation.

Fundraising Events:

Volunteers of America uses over 17,000 volunteers in regular weekly positions, i.e. Meals on Wheels delivery and/or for onetime special events such as Basket of Joy or Rake Up Colorado. Rewarding positions are available for youth and adult volunteers.
