Mission Statement

To provide financial resources in serving unmet needs of individuals with developmental disabilities/delays in their pursuit of a meaningful life.
about us

The SUN Foundation was established in 2013 to support our affiliate, Developmental Pathways. Our role in the Pathways family is to raise additional funds that provide vital assistance to thousands of individuals waiting for state and federal funding. Out of this great need, our name and mission were coined - to Serve the Unmet Needs in our community with the aim of providing solutions for people needing support now.
We invite individual and corporate donors to join us in supporting the 7,000+ people with developmental disabilities/delays served by Pathways in Arapahoe County, Douglas County, and the City of Aurora. We are also committed to partnering with other organizations in our community to fund targeted initiatives such as respite for family caregivers, parent trainings by therapists, and transportation to community events.

Who We Support
Developmental Pathways is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency created to serve individuals with developmental disabilities/delays and their families. Pathways is also one of Colorado’s Community Centered Boards providing individuals access to federal, state, county, and private funding in Arapahoe County, Douglas County, and the City of Aurora.

Fundraising Events:

Shining Stars Celebration
An awards banquet honoring the achievements of 7 individuals and families we serve in the categories of: family involvement, employment, athletics, personal growth, volunteerism, art, and achievement by a child. 2016’s gala featured nine-time Emmy award winner Cheryl Preheim as Mistress of Ceremonies and Representative Lois Landgraf as the evening’s Honorary Chair. For details on how to attend or sponsor this event in 2017, contact

SUNraiser Breakfast
The SUNraiser breakfast is an opportunity for the community to learn about who we are and what needs exist in our community. Attendees hear from families served by Developmental Pathways and have the opportunity to contribute to a specific area of need.

Colorado Gives Day
We participate in the annual “give where you live” campaign that raises millions for Colorado nonprofits. Visit to find out more about how you can support The SUN Foundation!

Areas of Impact:

SUN Emergency Funds
Thousands of individuals are currently waiting for state and federal funding to receive services from Developmental Pathways. SUN Emergency funds can provide much needed support to these individuals and their families as well as those already receiving funding in the form of medical equipment not covered by Medicaid, a variety of therapies, and home modifications.

3+ Initiative
Upon graduating from the state-funded Early Intervention program at age 3, many children face a 2 year gap in services until they are eligible for school-administered services at age 5. The 3+ Initiative aims to sustain the progress made through the Early Intervention program by funding services such as physical, speech, and occupational therapy as well as developmental and behavioral intervention.

Many individuals with developmental disabilities rely on public transportation to commute to work or increase independence. However, annual public transportation can cost thousands of dollars and present the barriers of limited routes and rigid time schedules. We partner with local organizations such as Douglas County and RTD to offer more comprehensive and affordable means of transportation for the people we serve.

Respite care is temporary relief designed for families of children or adults with a developmental disability/delay. Affording professional care for someone with a developmental disability can cost more than $700 a month. Respite funding can provide an hour or two each week to go to the grocery store or, on a grander scale, it can provide a bed in a host or group home where a loved one will receive professional care for a week while their family goes on a much overdue vacation.

Ways to Give

Cash Donation
Greatest Need Fund – An unrestricted gift to the Greatest Need Fund finances projects and programs that will have the greatest impact on the people we serve and their families. Donations can also be made as multi-year pledges.
Restricted Gift – Contribute to a specific area of impact or program by designating a gift to that need.

In-Kind Donation
Please inquire for a list of items we accept.

Planned Gift
The SUN Foundation’s Pathways Legacy Society honors those friends of Developmental Pathways who have made an extraordinary commitment to further our mission through a bequest or gift in their will.

Appreciated Assets
Donating appreciated assets directly to charity (rather than selling the assets then donating the cash proceeds) can be an excellent strategy for charitable giving. By taking advantage of the applicable tax incentives, donors may significantly increase the amount of funds available to donate and decrease tax implications.
